It looks really cool but the PC controls are unplayable. Why wouldn't W/Up be jump? The aiming seems weird too.

Hi! Thanks for the response. Sad to hear that you have difficult time with the controls. Can you confirm that W is jump for you? Just retested and for me only SPACE is binded to jump. Aiming takes some time to get used to, I guess a better tutorial / assist would be nice?
The timer starts before starting the game as well as whatever is killing me, none of the controls work, and when I die it repeatedly creates a popup in my browser that says "Game Over - You did not survive the night" that instantly pops up again as soon as I close it, making it where I cant click anything else and I have to close the whole tab to get rid of it. I just saw that You know the bugs there. Why would you keep it up if you know there is a critical bug that makes it unplayable?
its a bug warning
Nothing seems to happen other than a message blinking across the screen.
Whoops me not telling the players the controls moment, pressing space gets you past that part :]
why stager the ZXCV controls like that? Absolutely stupid. Game doesn't work, the start menu says to press "o" but nothin g happens. The ZXCV controls pull up the menu but nothing happens from there.
The "O" is because pico-8 (the game engine)
By default has two buttons, "O" and "X".
PC maps "O" to C/Z And "X" to X/V
I drew "O" on the title screen because the mobile player uses the defaults I mentioned as virtual buttons.
X/V don't pull up anything, so I don't know what's up with that.
And no, there's no changing it as far as I know.
(Long ahh response, I know)
(Edit: The reason nothing happens is probably because you've been spamming menu, which restarts the game)
(Edit2, I have since updated the title screen to also include a keyboard prompt)
I appreciate the Gameboy Color graphics, very nostalgic. The dialog could use a lot of work, and there is WAY too much. A game intro shouldn't have this much dialog, makes it boring out of the gate, 95% of this demo was dialog that added nothing to the plot. The fighting was subpar, same cookie-cutter turn based combat as the last 1mil+ turn based games, and the enemy didn't have a health bar showing so no way to gauge progress or strategize actions.
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy my demo. I'm not sure I'm following the 95% of dialogue didn't add anything to the plot. As for the combat, I forgot to originally post that this is a homebrew Gameboy game, so it's designed to have that old school turn-based combat. Adding a health bar (or some way to gage HP/MP) is something I may consider in a future build. I appreciate you giving Tales of Hyperia: The Crimson Knight a try.
I got over 15000 and there was never any obstacles, was that on purpose? Also it didn't collect my score.
Odd. There's supposed to be flames you jump over. Maybe the game had some kind of glitch. Did it work properly on any other playthroughs? I see your name on the Newgrounds high scores for today though it only says 36 as opposed to 15,000.
Needs a way to reset the game after losing. I have to reload the whole page.
I am working on that. Expect it for a future update.
UPDATE 11/3/2024
YOU CAN NOW REPLAY WITHOUT HAVING TO COMPLETELY RELOAD THE PAGE.
The character isn't showing up for me, I'm able to move around the screen using the controls, but it's like the guys invisible.
I am sorry, please try to change the browser or maby update your graphics card drivers.
I think the hit box for the spikes is too large, i keep dying without touching them.
i got you!
I just have to learn how to adjust hitboxes
but thank you for playing my game at all!
And thanks again for the generous 3 star rating!
But newgrounds won't let me publish it,
so you'll have to wait, sorry.
